Pomegranates. Sweet. Delicious. Pop them in the mouth and they burst oh so beautifully like fireworks.
So how can an amazing fruit be so difficult to get to? God was probably laughing his head off when He created this fruit. “I’ll make it so delicious, but let’s make them work hard to get to it”. *Snickers*
Well, You’ve been outsmart. Look who’s laughing now.
It doesn’t involve meticulously breaking them apart individually.
It doesn’t involve soaking in water.
It definitely doesn’t involve putting them in your shoe, stomping your foot and dripping the juices directly into your mouth.
It does however, involve a wooden spoon. Yup. A big one. And a bowl. And a ‘whack a mole game’ spirit.
Step 1: Grab a knife and slit the fruit. Crack it open.
Step 2: Hold the fruit skin side up above a bowl with one hand. Hold a wooden spoon or a spatula with the other hand.
Now hit it. The seeds will start falling. Trust me. All you need is to gather stored up resentment and let it all out.
I’m still amazed every time this happens. Discard the white membrane and you’re good to go!
Important notes
1. Stains
- Unless you want spots of red on your clothes, wear an apron. Either that or do this in a sink.
- If you do stain your clothes, sprinkle baking soda on stain, spray water on it to make a paste, leave overnight and wash as usual the next day.
2. Hitting
- The skin is hard when you first hit but will gradually soften.
- You may get too carried away. Don’t. Hitting too hard will cause the skin to crack and makes it harder to extract the seeds.
- For stubborn seeds, use the edges of the spatula/spoon to hit.
- For the half of the fruit with the “crown”, cut the crown to ease hitting.
- Don’t hit yourself.

Got a better way to deseed pomegranates fast & quick? I don’t think so.
