There’s nothing much to say about orange juice or lemonade because most people have definitely tasted them before. I did Google “orange juice” and found that people actually submit ‘orange juice recipes’ online. Ingredients? Oranges. You betcha! Directions? Squeeze or juice them. Seriously? It’s like asking “How to eat an apple?” Ok. People actually submit this online too. How Tarzan do you need to be to NOT know how to make orange juice or eat an apple? I take that back. Even Tarzan probably knows how to do both.
Then there’s orange lemonade. Just imagine the last time you had orange juice and the last time you had lemonade. Now, somehow combine them in your mouth right now. That’s pretty much how it tastes like. A flavorful orange zing to add on the lemonade.
But now when sparkling water joins the equation, it becomes a whole different story. Like how if Humpty Dumpty was actually a hard-boiled egg.
Sparking water is the key. It’s the bomb. You’d know this if you’ve been crazy enough to let your mouth taste, your esophagus flow with and your tummy fill with Coke or Pepsi left out for too long that its gas has run out. Bleh! Like drinking black water… with sugar.
Sparkling water is pretty good on its own. But if you turn it into orange lemonade fizz… Well, let’s just say once you take a sip of this, you just can’t stop. First, you’ll taste the sweetness of it all and then WHAM a lil sourness hits you in the face, all along the fizziness feels like every bubble in your mouth pops just at the right time. Drink up!
Quick Recipe Serves 6
what you need:
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 cup fresh lemon juice, juiced and strained
1 cup fresh orange juice, juiced and strained
3 cups sparkling water
directions:
- Put water and sugar in a small saucepan. On medium high heat, bring liquid to boil and then turn heat to low. Stir until sugar has completely dissolved and mixture is clear. (This a simple syrup.)
- Combine lemon juice, orange juice, simple syrup and sparkling water in a jug/pitcher. Serve immediately. (If you want, you can refrigerate it for 1/2 hour or add ice.)
Notes:
- Simple syrup can be made in a bigger batch, let cool, store in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to 6 months.
- If you like it less sweet, use 3/4 cups of sugar instead or add more sparkling water.
- Add more lemon juice and less orange juice for a more tart taste.
